Modern Folk Artists

The Quarter Stitch is pleased to have relationships with and support several modern New Orleans folk artists. We carry a selection of their work as hand-painted needlepoint canvases. Please call or email us to order!

Please call or email for current prices. In general, the Quarter Stitch quotes prices that include the hand-painted canvas and specially chosen colors of wool for stitching each canvas. If you prefer the canvas by itself, just let us know!

Terry Gaskins

Terry is a professional photographer, painter, and doll maker living in New Orleans. She has a bachelor's degree from Columbia College in Chicago and worked as a nightlife photographer for over 15 years. She moved to New Orleans the year before Hurricane Katrina. After the storm, she started painting using found wood from the rebuilding of the city. "I don't plan on ever retiring. I can't imagine my life not creating art."

We have added Terry's work to our online shop, but as always feel free to email us to order if you prefer.

Dr. Bob

New Orleans self-taught folk artist Dr. Bob has made the phrase "Be Nice or Leave" as much a part of his identity as the found objects he transforms into his artwork. His gallery is in the Bywater.

Simon

Born in France and later moving to the United States, Simon found his true calling to be a painter in the early 2000s. Overall, Simon’s pieces whimsically embody the unique culture of this spectacular city.
